It started 25 years ago...

Giuseppe ("Joe") Scalzo emigrated to the United States, he was 27 years old. Born and raised in Calabria, Italy, Joe studied mechanical engineering. While in Florence, he fell in love, cooking at a small intimate restaurant in the evenings. After some time, he was offered the opportunity to take over the restaurant. However, Joe already made arrangements to come to the United States.

When Joe arrived, he went to study international business at Loyola University in Chicago. However, he noticed something was missing. There was no place where people could go and enjoy themselves over good food. Determined, Joe had a new desire to operate a restaurant. To open a place of his own, that reminded him of home. Where food could be skillfully prepared with quality ingredients. Friends and family could experience a beautiful evening over good food.

Currently

Joe owns and operates Ciao Bella (Which translates to 'Hello, beautiful" in Italian) This serves as a reminder that Italian food can be so much more than lasagna, ravioli, and spaghetti. There is a passion for cooking! Authentic food should be made with love! The Mediterranean diet is one of the best in the world. Pair an Italian dish with some beautiful wine and you will experience greatness!
